Whats people lookup in this blog.
Hey all. I work at a Best Buy and was promoted from a home theater associate to a Magnolia home theater associate about a month ago or so. I've worked in home theater for a couple months now, and feel fairly well versed on the basics of television technology. However, I am just starting out learning about the audio side of it all and would like to know good places to start out.
I'm supposed to focus on creating a more complete solution for those looking for a home theater package. While before it was basically find them a good TV and get them a sound bar and send them on their way, even I know that a decent 5.1 system will blow almost any sound bar out of the water.
There is basically no training provided by Best Buy, and our last three Magnolia associates all quit within a couple months so there isn't anyone with any experience working at my store. I've asked my managers what I should do, and they said that eventually we'd either get more experienced help, or a trainer to come but in the meanwhile I should try and pick up as much as I can. So I've played around with the equipment we have set up, and have done some basic research on what products we carry, but it's fairly overwhelming.
The one problem I've found is how to pick out a specific receiver or set of speakers from the 20 or so we carry. What differentiates a Denon from a Pioneer, or a Yamaha from a Marantz? Speakers are a little easier as I can tell that Definitive Technologies seem more movie oriented that Martin Logan, but I feel that's very subjective. How did you pick one brand over the other? Or how do you help someone else choose whats right for them?
I guess what I'm asking for is any general advice on starting out with in-depth home theaters. Any good guides on designing a home theater or media room, what to look for with audio systems, or just general tips for getting the best bang for your buck in a home theater.
Thanks!
